This monument to the 101st Ohio Infantry is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863.

Text on the front of the monument:

101st Ohio Infantry
2nd Brigade, 1st Division
20th Army Corps

Text on the rear of the monument:

This regiment, Lt. Col. John Messer commanding, became engaged about 2:30 P.M. Sept. 19th, 1863. The engagement continued until after 5:00 P.M. with varying fortune, our lines alternately receding and advancing.

Sept. 20th, 1863, it became engaged about 11:00 A.M. but after firing half a dozen rounds was flanked by the break occasioned by the movement of Wood’s division to the left, and was broken and compelled to retreat.

Loss: Killed 13: Wounded 83: Captured or missing 51.
