Chaiya is a small town in the southern Thai province of Surat Thani, found ~50kms by road to the north of the provincial capital. A quiet town, surrounded by rice farms and small villages.

Near the centre of the town, not too far from the train station, is a small cafe, the "Coffee Room". The cafe has a goodly range of hot and cold teas and coffees (cold drinks are popular in Thailand, if you ask for just "coffee" or "tea", you in turn will be asked if you want that hot or cold), food, and deserts (icecream cakes in great variety). The cafe also doubles as a travel and hotel booking agency, and there are a couple of old computers in a corner. There were also a bunch of teenager boys hanging out in the cafe. Since the staff of the cafe consisted of several cute teenage girls, this is entirely understandable. I surmise it is a 'hang out' for the local youth.

There are tables outside, but I would not recommend on a hot day. Interior seating for maybe 25 people, posters and such on the walls. Internet wifi present. Minimal English, bring your phrase book or pantomime repertoire. This is about the only 'modern' eatery I could see in the town. Rather pleasant spot, even with the loitering teenage boys present. The quality of the food and drink was good. Recommended. I will give this 4.5 stars. It is what it is, very well.
