On 4/10/2013 a massive landslide totally destroyed the Mine Visitor Center. Because of advance warning everything at the Visitor Center had been removed to a safe location. A new Visitor Center will probably not be available until after 2014.

There is a statue of the beautiful Statue of Liberty inside the visitors information museum at Kennecott Cooper Mine. The statue is there with information about how much cooper was used to build the Ststue of Libety in New York harbor. Kennecott Cooper is one of the largest producer of mining cooper.
This is what the signs reads:
The Statue of Liberty is the tallest cooper statue in the world. Standing 152 feet, the 200,000-pound outer covering is formed of more than 300 hand-shaped sheets of cooper only 3/32-inch thick. It has been the United States' symbol of liberty since 1886.
To get to the mine take Highway 111 toward the southwest part of the Salt Lake Valley. (12800 South State Route 111) This will get you to the main entrance and toll booth, follow the road 4 1/2 miles to the visitors center. Here you will see the mine, signs and displays of items from the mine. Here is a link to the visitors center:
