Parts of this church date back to the 12th Century. It is was replaced by the new church in 1877, in memory of Charles William Earl Fitzwilliam KG and his wife. They owned a large stately home and much of the land that the church and village of Wentworth stand on.
It lies just across the road from the new church and has a separate entrance.
In the cemetery there is a large family plot constructed by William Earl Fitzwilliam and Charles William Viscount Milton for the Wentworth branch of the family.
There are about 250 graves in total.
