When you thought of Kingston BMX over the past decade, one family name came to mind, the Brierley’s. Unfortunately dad Peter Brierley lost his battle with cancer two years and many of us thought that this could be cause for his family to throw in the towel, but no, they were determined to keep Peter’s dreams alive.
Peter had two dreams – one- that Kingston BMX would get the turns paved and two – that BMX racing would somehow make it into the Olympic Games. Even though we would like to think he had something to do with dream number two coming true, we know for sure that he had something to do with number one, and that is where Joanne comes in.
Jo-Anne has dedicated the last two years to keeping Peters dream alive and to maintaining Kingston BMX’s success. On October 1, 2005 the turns in Kingston were paved with monies donated to the Peter Brierley BMX Fund and at an emotional ceremony the Kingston track was renamed the Peter Brierley Memorial BMX Track. Both of Peter’s dreams had come true.
Jo-Anne is not only the track president, she is a great leader to all her volunteers, the first to laugh and smile, wonderful with the younger racers and all around great person.
Cheers
