This huge white pine remains sit in the Lindbergh State Park in Little Falls, MN. This land was once the Charles Lindbergh (famous aviator, first to fly solo across the Atlantic)childhood home. Lindbergh referred to this tree as the "sentry" as it stood so tall and watched over the farm.

The informational plaque says that the tree stood over 100 feet tall and had a diameter of over 4 feet. The rings estimate the tree to have been a seedling back in the 1700's. It would have provided shade during the fur trade era and Ojibwe days.

During the 1930's, the WPA was at work in the park building shelters and trails. They put a fence around the stately tree to protect it from people driving over its roots.

The tree was hit by lightning in 1986 and the following year.

The informational plaque tells the tale of the tree and also provides information on how to tell a tree's age, rings and more. This is a great display.
