Cemetery of early pioneers of the area. Buried here are Claiborn Gorman (1795 -1869), M. Aderhold (1827 -1895}, The Kolb & Knott familys from 1844 to 1875, and dozens more unnamed stone graves. Gorman, in 1838 Built and put into operation the first ferry in the area crossing the Chattahoochee River at GA HWY 166 / Campbellton road. Gorman's Plantation was on both sides of the river but his home was on what is now the Douglas county side, after his death in 1869 the plantation was purchased by Alfred Austell Sr., who's family operated the farm until about 1945. Aderhold Owned the ferry that crossed near the mouth of Sweetwater Creek at Old Sandtown which was less than a half mile. This Cemetery once was apon a rise looking over the river. Today this wonderful old cemetery is surrounded by Industrial buildings but under a beautiful canopy of Hardwood trees.
