Kendal's main Post Office has the postal address of Crown Office. The rear is the main sorting office for the area, with vans and bicycles emerging through the narrow archway.

The building is made of yellow sandstone. Out of place amongst the grey limestone of Kendal. Several steps lead up to the main door, which is not at pavement height. Above the door it reads The Post Office. None of the signs state which office this is.

Originally a private house stood here, but in 1928 this was knocked down for this purpose built Post Office to a design by architect Charles P Wilkinson.
