Wiley Post Park is located on the south side of the Oklahoma River, along the 7-mile paved walking and bicycle trail. This is a large park which provides a skate park, picnic pavilion, playgrounds and one of Oklahoma City’s Spraygrounds, open from 10AM – 8PM daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Sprayground offers water cannons, tilting waster basket and mushroom water curtains for children to enjoy and use to battle the fierce Oklahoma heat. This park is the site of many local events, including concerts and the Oklahoma River Run & Dog Jog.
The park has a large Party House located on the west side of the park. This is a facility which is for rent by the public. It is air-conditioned, has bathroom facilities and a full kitchenette. It is available from 8AM - 11PM.
The park is named for Wiley Post (1898-1935), a barn stormer and test pilot in the early days of aviation. He also was influential in the design of the first successful pressurized space suit. In 1931, he circled the globe in his “Winnie Mae” with his navigator. Again, from July 15-22, 1933, he flew solo around the globe in 7 days, 18 hours and 49 minutes. Wiley Post was killed in a plane crash in Alaska, accompanied by Will Rogers, on August 15, 1975
