The confluence of the Westfield and Connecticut Rivers in Western Massachusetts has been developed into Pynchon Park. The park contains ample parking, a bronze plaque and a large interpretive sign. Many use the area for birding, fishing and boating. To reach the coordinates take the wide concrete path down to a semi-open area where you may view the confluence from south bank of the Westfield River and the west bank of the Connecticut River.

The Connecticut River is the longest river in New England. It has its origin at the Connecticut Lakes in New Hampshire, near the border with Vermont and Canada. It flows south along the New Hampshire-Vermont border and enters western Massachusetts. It continues on through central Connecticut and discharges into Long Island Sound at Old Lyme and Old Saybrook.

The Connecticut River is 407 miles long. The average freshwater discharge into Long Island Sound is 19,600 cubic feet per second. The largest cities on the river are Springfield, MA, followed by Hartford, CT.

The Westfield River originates in the Berkshire Hills in the northwest part of Massachusetts and flows southeasterly to join the Connecticut River at Agawam, MA. The river has three main branches - North, Middle and West which combine to form the main river. It flows through Westfield, West Springfield and Agawam before discharging into the Connecticut River. The river is 61.1 miles long.
