This moving sculpture spins over the library lawn on Locust Street a block east of the Pappajohn Sculpture Garden. It was created by artist Edward Lee Hendricks, in 1986. Fashioned from aluminum and stainless steel, it was appropriately given the name “Les Vents.” It was a gift to the Des Moines Public Library from American Republic Insurance Company. A marker includes this information as well as the quote from Dan Hamilton: “You can’t direct the wind, but you can adjust the sails.”
