The tree, planted to commemorate the 400th birthday of William Shakespeare was dedicated in '64. As this is the cultural and art center of Hollywood, it is quite fitting that it be here. Curiously, there's no record of this on the internet.

From the plaque attached to a rock:
"He shall flourish, and like a mountain cedar reach his branches to all the plains around him. Our children's children shall see this and bless heaven."
(King Henry VIII)
"This silver oak planted April 23, 1964 in honor of the 400th anniversary of the birth of
William Shakespeare
(1564 - 1616)
In deepest gratitude for his eternal legacy"
The City of Hollywood
The Shakespeare Club of Hollywood
This could be the smallest tree given its age of 44 years. The park is absolutely beautiful and this site is located on the fringe of the park, kind of in limbo between what is and what is not the historic downtown business district.
