The Berns-Sunflower Theatre was built in 1919 for Arnold Berns. The Art Deco with Spanish Colonial Revival influences styled building was designed by Kansas City architects, the Boller Brothers. It was constructed of brick, terra cotta tile and reinforced steel. The building used the common walls of the adjacent buildings which speedup its construction. There is no indication in the National Register Nomination form that the theater ever had a marquee.

The Sunflower Theatre remained in operation until the 1950s and then the building remained vacant for several years. In the 1960s the building was re-purposed and converted to the Peabody Lanes, a bowling alley for which purpose it continues to be used. - from District Nomination form
