Giant Crab Gourmet Seafood Buffet was our pick of all the buffets tried during our vacation. The Giant Crab is an independent, comparable to the Captain George's chain in quality, cleanliness, and variety of selections. A definite #1. And if the food can't captivate you, the decor definitely will.
Advertising works! While vacationing in Myrtle Beach, we drove by "restaurant row" (AKA N. Kings Highway) and were treated to several seafood buffet restaurants that had nautical themed decorations on the outside. But it was the Giant Grab Buffet that took the proverbial cake. This restaurant serves as a perch for a steel and fiber, 4.5 ton, 25' tall, 34' wide crab named Tommy. No admission required to look at the crab or the nautical collections outside.
As of time of publishing, the buffet cost $26 for adults (including crab legs and over 170 items sprawled across three main buffet areas). Buffets include a raw bar, kids section (pizza nachos etc), soup and salad bar, dessert bar, Prime rib carving stations, Mongolian BBQ, and of course a station dedicated to crab legs. The assortment and quality was excellent. Service was average to above average depending on the wait staff.
The experience.... that is the important part. The kids had fun exploring the visuals of the restaurant. And for us adults, it was reminiscent of Americana icons.
If visiting Myrtle Beach, this should definitely be added to your itinerary even if only to take in the sights of Tommy and the other Nautical decor. You can also imbibe at the adjacent bar or partake in a great buffet experience.
Note; if dining, make sure and pick up a coupon from one of the many free booklets found at most area businesses. Hours adjust with season.
