The Dovecote
Restored in 1995 with grant
assistance from Daventry D.C.
This grade II listed dovecote is perfectly round, has battered walls with a mid-way string course and a conical tiled roof. It is surmounted by an octagonal lantern with diamond glazed lancet windows and a small octo-conical tiled roof. There are the remnants of a weathervane/finial on the very top. There is a single plank entrance with stone lintel and has approximately 400 nesting boxes.
It is in the grounds of a building which used to be the Dovecote Laundry and is probably C16, possibly restored in C19, then again as mentioned above. The 'Dovecote Laundry' building is early C18 and was reputedly once a public house.
Access may be had by calling the number given on the information board on the entrance gate.
