In 1912 Westlock came to be when the town site was surveyed in 1912. The original owners of the land that was purchased, and where the town's name came from where William Westgate and William Lockhart.
The Village of Westlock was incorporated on March 13, 1916 and became a town just over 30 years later. By the end of World War I, Westlock was an established service centre for the agricultural community with the first bank north of Edmonton, a blacksmith and a general store.
Westlock Jubilee Arena, Westlock Curling Rink, Ball Diamonds, Tennis Courts and Soccer/Football Fields are some of the many facilities located within Town.
Parks and Open Spaces include Belvedere Park (105 Street and 100 Avenue), Eastglen Park (103A Street and 106 Avenue), Polymanth Playground (107 Street and 108A Avenue), Altador Athletics Field (10516-106 Street) and Lions Park (110 Street and 100 Avenue)
