Ophelia Bell was born in London in 1915. She studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic Sculpture School and exhibited at the Royal Academy. In 1940 she married the Lakeland artist William Heaton Cooper at St Oswald’s Church, Grasmere. Many of her later works were concerned with Lakeland life. Ophelia Bell died in 1975 and is buried in Grasmere Cemetery.
