Rachaburi is a small town, and capital of the province of the same name, ~80kms west of Bangkok. A quiet area of farms and light industry.
This clock is found near the town centre, on the river, near the market. My tuk tuk driver (these people know everything) told me that the clock is seventy years old, which dates the clock to the early 40s. In the provincial museum I did see an undated photograph of the clock, the surrounds were clearly of an earlier era.
It is a four faced tower clock, in good repair, bright yellow in colour. I suspect that, back in the day, it was something of a navigational marker. Interestingly enough, there are a few small rooms at the base of the tower. These seemed to be inhabited by a family. I can only assume that there task is to keep the clock clean and tidy. The clock, sad to say, tells the correct time only twice a day.
The inscription on the clock (in gallery), clearly identifies the clock as the town clock: 'The big clock of the town of Ratchaburi' (translated).
