Seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1755, the church of São João Baptista has an overhaul in 1762.
In 1851 he was in a state of ruin, during which time the secretary of the Prefecture of Leiria Board authorized the Parish to sell what was left of the Chapel of the Espirito Santo in Alfeizerão to fund repair work due.
The architecture of the church is a longitudinal plan of nave. Its exterior betrays rococo stylistic influence, specifically in the curvilinear gable, the outlines of the openings of the frame and the bell tower of the main facade.
All your insides, much changed over time, is dominated by straight lines and is now stripped of gilt that already possessed.
While undergoing changes throughout the interior, over the centuries, has not lost its simplicity and grandeur. It is dominated by straight lines which stands a sixteenth-century image of the patron.
