This "Pioneer Cemetery" is where Thomas Lincoln and his family, including a 6-year-old Abraham Lincoln, buried Nancy Hanks Lincoln after succumbing to what was called then "Milk Sickness."
Approximately 100 other area residents are buried within this cemetery, but, obviously, the birth mother of Abraham Lincoln receives the most attention.
Her actual grave site is not known. The memorial marker was installed in 1879 "by a friend of her martyred son."
