Located about 12 miles northeast of Aberdeen, Columbia, South Dakota, is a very small community in Brown County. There are no major highways intersecting the town.

It had a population of 134 as of July 2009 and its population has decreased about 4% since the 2000 census.

German, Irish, English, Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish immigrants settled the area and the town was incorporated in 1885.

Its claim to fame is that it is the oldest community in Brown County.
The James River flows near the town and flooding is a major issue for the community. In 2011 floodwaters engulfed most of the town and it was isolated by flooded roads in the vicinity.

The following information comes from a book entitled "The American Legion in South Dakota" by John L. Murphy:

As one after the other of the men who went away to war in 1917 and 1918 came trooping back in the spring of 1919, there began to be a talk that we should have a post of the American Legion here. In August 1919, our comrade, Andrew K. Hoover, sent to headquarters for details in organizing a Post. He found that it was necessary to get at least fifteen members signed up to procure a charter.

A temporart charter was issued by National Executive Committee on September 9, 1919. Thus, a post was organized and named after Roy L. Hall, who had given his life overseas. On the 22nd of February, 1920, memorial services in honor of Hall were held.

On May 7, 1929, the necessary signers for a charter for an Auxiliary Unit were secured and it was organized on July 23, 1920.

On July 24, 1927, the Post home, which was rented, burned down and all equipment was destroyed. A new post home was built but in February 1944, that one was destroyed by a fire.

Today the post home shares the building with the Community Center.

The 2011 membership goal for the post is 49 and current membership stands at 48.
