A beautiful set of chiselled art work above a doorway to the former living quarters overlooking the gardens in Chirk Castle. It now forms the exit to the tour, and well worth tuning your head for. The tour give was very useful all day, but he wasn't any help on the day for the date of artist unfortunately.
The relief shows a shield with the triple heads of the Chirk castle family that have owned it from the 15c; the Mydeltons. The heads are from dogs that are linked to The area behind the shield there is a sculpted tangle of oak leaves, linking to the large amount of old oak trees in the area.
