The Armed Forces Plaza in front of Hauppauge's H. Lee Dennison building has many statues and monuments recognizing Suffolk County veterans and those who have lost their lives.

New York State Route 454 cuts through the heart of Hauppauge and is better known locally as Veterans Memorial Highway. It draws its names from the various monuments and memorials built along its roadside, among the prominent is the Armed Forces Plaza in front of the H. Lee Dennison building.

The plaza has statues, monuments, plaques and more representing various events in United States' history: World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf Wars, Sept. 11 and the "forgotten wars." It can be accessed by roadway entrance to the county office building, and parking is nearest the roadside where there is a concrete pathway that leads into the plaza. There is no sufficient outdoor lighting of this area at night. The World War II monument is at the head of the pathway.

Visitors are permitted to take pictures of the memorial and leave behind tokens, such as flowers or flags in honors of their veterans and loved ones .

There is plaque next to the monument which states:

Suffolk County
WORLD WAR II MONUMENT
Dedicated to the men and women of Suffolk County who bravely served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America during World War II in recognition of the sacrifices they made for the defense of freedom for all mankind.

The momument itself is circular. It stands about 3 1/2 ft. high and is approximately 30ft in diameter. On the outer rim around the circumference are several plaques. Each plaque gives dates and limited detail about a significant battle or campaign. The interior of the monument is white cement engraved with two maps. One map shows the European Theater and the other shows the Pacific Theater. Locations are marked corresponding to each battle/campaign plaque.
