The Medieval fortress that comprises both the castle and the urban wall was rebuilt under D. Dinis reign. The reconstruction ended in 1327 under the ruling of D. Afonso IV. Casa da Câmara was built in the 15th century. New works were carried out in the 17th century, surrounding the village up to the current garden. S. Roque Fort was built in the 18th century. The bastion-like fortress was extended along with Loureiros Wall, integrating Conceição quarter, S. Francisco Convent and Calvário. The fortress is considerably wide, comprising almost the whole village. It stands out as a well-kept fortress.
