Escola Básica Integrada 1,2,3/JI Vasco da Gama is located at Rua Ilha dos Amores, in the Parque das Nações, in an urban area, located north of the area where "Expo 98" was held.
The School was designed by architects Otília Santos and José Pancada Correia, who sought to integrate it in the theme of EXPO 1998: "The Oceans". This reason led to the building had the shape of a whale.
Within the main entrance of the school, and also related to the sea and discoveries, is the bust of Vasco da Gama. The sculpture, brought from the old school and created by the sculptor and professor Guilherme Teves in 1995, during the commemoration of the discoveries, as sponsors had the National Commission for the Commemoration of Portuguese Discoveries, the Municipality of Loures and Parish of Portela de Sacavem.
