The position of the font near the entrance is symbolic to remind people that they enter their faith through baptism.

There has been a church on this site since at least AD867, but the first stone church was built in 1181.

I don’t know when the font was installed but the tower and bells were added between1757 and 1759. At the same time a gallery above the font was built and the recess where the font is was built in the same style. It would make sense that the font was installed at the same time.
