Somdej (Princess) Phra Srinagarindra Boromarajajonani, in full, was the mother of the King of Thailand, Rama IX. Born in 1900, she lived to see two of her sons ascend the throne of Thailand. Over course of her life she was involved with a wide range of social welfare and assistance programs for Thai people, making her a much loved figure in the kingdom. She passed away in 1995.

There are a number of statues commemorating her memory in Thailand. This statue is situated in the small town of Chachoengsao, which lies approximately 60kms to the east of Bangkok, in the Royal Park, at the centre of the town, opposite the provincial hall. The correct and full name of the park is: Suan Somdej Phra Sri Nakaring Chachoengsao. The park is a major recreation facility.

The King's mother is depicted seated, on a raised area, across the central lake from the main entrance, seemingly gazing out across the lake. As with most statues in Thailand, this statue is also a shrine. Locals do come by to pay their respects to the memory the King's mother.
