This mark is a Cook County Highway Department benchmark, presumably set in 1954 slightly after the original construction of the Edens Expressway. The mark is, like many similar marks, set in a concrete bridge support in the southeast section of the bridge.

The mark is clearly visible from the southern sidewalk over the bridge. The mark is set into the top of the easternmost bridge support, just east of where the metal chain-link fence begins, and well before the bridge starts to go over the expressway proper. You should be able to see the mark by simply peering over the concrete wall along the southern side of the sidewalk.
