This great old cast iron pump would have been a necessity outside this restored 1872 one room schoolhouse. Frequented by thirsty children and dirty hands, this hand pump is the traditional kind of pump that most homes and public buildings had before the days of indoor plumbing. This one is found in Calliope Village, a reconstructed village which portrays Hawarden between 1860 and 1911.

It is a wonderful tourist attraction that can be found on Hwy. 10 on the west side of town.
