This delightful railroad mural helps preserve the memories of the old steam locomotives that used to roll through Hawarden. The painting portrays a vintage Chicago and Northwestern steam engine with a coal car and passenger cars as it idles at the Hawarden Depot. A pioneer family unloads their trunks from the railroad wagon, ready to start their new life on the Iowa prairie.
The painting was done in 1986 by Homstad and is located on the north side of the Dollar General Store at the corner of Hwy. 10 and Central Avenue in Hawarden.
