On the southeast corner of Dean A McGee and N. Robinson, this ten-story buff brick and limestone building has an interesting history. It was built in 1923 by Thomas Braniff, the most successful and influential businessman in Oklahoma City, and the founder of Braniff Airlines in 1928. It was designed by Solomon Layton, the foremost architect of the time.

The first and second floors are covered in limestone and are topped by an ornate heavy cornice. Above this, the north facade is divided into five bays, with nine bays on the West elevation. Windows are set in pairs. The top floor is separated from the others by a second cornice.

Thomas Braniff was killed in 1954 in a plane wreck. The building was later purchased by Kerr McGee Corporation for additional office space. In 2007, this building as well as several others in the same block were purchased by SandRidge Energy. They moved their offices into one of the buildings and have plans to demolish several of the historic buildings in the block to make way for a park and additional office space. The Braniff Building is not scheduled for demolition, however, and plans are underway for its renovation. It is currently vacant.
[Information on the building and Braniff found in the Registry nomination. Current status found in local news articles. Photos show extensive upgrading of roadways in downtown area, not related to this building.]
