Classificado como Monumento Nacional, os antigos Paços Municipais do Concelho situam-se em pleno centro histórico, no Largo da Oliveira. A sua edificação iniciou-se, ainda, no reinado de D. João I, séc. XIV, tendo sido alvo de uma profunda remodelação no século XVIII. O rés-do-chão do edifício é formado por um alpendre aberto, cuja arcaria é de cariz gótico, estabelecendo ligação entre o Largo da Oliveira e a Praça de Santiago. O segundo andar, fechado por janelas, é coroado por ameias, resultantes da reforma a que foi alvo no início do século XVI. De destacar a escultura do século XIX de grandes dimensões que se encontra no centro da fachada principal, uma representação proveniente do antigo edifício da alfândega e que segundo a tradição simbolizaria o duplo contributo dos vimaranenses nas conquistas em África. Actualmente, os que foram os antigos Paços do Concelho acolhem o Museu de Arte Primitiva Moderna.
Aqui também esteve instalado o Arquivo Colegiada Nossa Senhora da Oliveira desde 14 de Outubro de 1934 até ao ano de 1963.

Classified as National Monument, the old Paços Municipal/of the Concelho is placed in the historical center, in the Plaza of Oliveira. Its construction was initiated, still, in the reign of D. João I, séc. XIV, having been the aim of a deep remodelling in theXVIII century. The ground floor of the building is formed by one opened alpendre, whose arcaria of gotic style, establishing linking enters to the Plaza of the Oliveira and to the Square of Santiago.The second floor, closed by windows, it is crowned by ameias, resultants of the reform that it suffered in the beginning of the XVI century. The sculpture of the XIX century of great dimensions can be found in the center of the main facade, a representation move from the antique costums building and that according to tradition it would symbolize a double tribute to the inhabitants of Guimarães due to the conquers in Africa. Currently, the ones that had been the old Paços of the Concelho are now the Museum of Modern Primitive Art. Here had also been the Archive the Colegiada Lady of the Oliveira from 14 of October of 1934 until the year of 1963.
