This Statue of Liberty replica was one of the first to be placed in Iowa. The copper statue is about 8 feet tall mounted on a stone base and set in star shaped planter. It was dedicated in 1951.
The Boy Scouts of America are responsible for over 200 Statue of Liberty replicas that are found in at least 39 U.S. states. Kansas City Council Scout Commisioner J.P. Whitaker came up with the idea to make these 8 ½’ statues available to celebrate the scouting program’s 40th Anniversary. The theme was “Stengthen the Arm of Liberty” and purchase price was $350 back in the early 1950’s. They were manufactured by Friedley-Veshardt Company, Chicago, IL.
