"La Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours est une église de pèlerinage de Montréal, fondée par sainte Marguerite Bourgeoys en 1655. Elle est située sur la rue Saint-Paul, à l'intersection de la rue de Bonsecours, dans le Vieux-Montréal.
La chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours fut mise en chantier en 1655 à l’instigation de Marguerite Bourgeoys, première éducatrice de Ville-Marie et fondatrice de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame. Construite en bois et reconstruite en pierre en 1675, elle fut détruite par le feu en 1754. Reconstruite en 1771; son apparence actuelle date de la fin du xixe siècle. Son plafond, orné par les huit scènes peintes par François-Édouard Meloche entre 1886 et 1891, illustre la vie de la Vierge.
Rélié à la chapelle, le Musée Marguerite-Bourgeoys, un musée d'histoire et d'archéologie de Montréal met entre autres en valeur les artéfacts retrouvé sur le site. Ceux-ci proviennent de campements amérindiens millénaires, des fondations de la première chapelle et des empreintes des pieux de la palissade en bois qui ceinturait la ville avant qu'elle ait des fortifications de pierre.
Les restes de sainte Marguerite Bourgeoys ont été transportés à la chapelle le 24 avril 2005, de la maison mère de la congrégation dont elle fut aussi la fondatrice, la Congrégation de Notre-Dame.
Une statuette de la Vierge datant du xvie siècle et apportée de France par Marguerite Bourgeoys, devint l’objet d’une véritable vénération en sortant indemne de l’incendie de la chapelle en 1754." - Wikédia
Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours is a pilgrimage church in Montreal, founded by St. Marguerite Bourgeoys in 1655. It is located on St. Paul Street, corner of rue de Bonsecours in Old Montreal.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Good Help was begun in 1655 at the instigation of Margaret Bourgeois, first teacher in Ville-Marie and founder of the Congregation of Notre Dame. Built in wood and stone rebuilt in 1675, it was destroyed by fire in 1754. Rebuilt in 1771, its current appearance dates from the late nineteenth century. Its ceiling, adorned with eight scenes painted by François-Édouard Meloche between 1886 and 1891, illustrates the life of the Virgin.
Connected to the chapel, Marguerite Bourgeoys Museum, a museum of history and archeology of Montreal and other places in the area with many important artifacts on display. They come from ancient Indian camps, the foundations of the chapel and the first impressions of the piles of wooden fence that surrounded the city before it has a stone fortifications.
The remains of Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys were transported to the chapel April 24, 2005, the parent of the congregation that she was also the founder, the Congregation of Notre Dame.
A statue of the Virgin dating from the sixteenth century and brought from France by Marguerite Bourgeois, became the object of true worship to escape unscathed from the fire of the chapel in 1754.
