The monument was erected to honor veteran of all wars, however the original monument was in honor of all Kane County veterans of the Civil War. Surrounding the monument are plaques listing the names of all Kane County residents who participated in the Civil War. Behind the main monument is a ball and chain from the Andersonville Prisoner of War camp.
