The Tavares & Gulf Railroad is actually the second railroad to be built in Winter Garden. The first railroad was a narrow gauge line, the Orange Belt Railway. Organized in 1885, it began service to Winter Garden in 1887. Shortly thereafter, the T&G extended its service east from Clermont to Winter Garden, running parallel to the Orange Belt. Today the depot serves as a railroad museum, housing a great deal of artifacts and documents.
