San Francisco is a city with many hilly neighborhoods. There are many hidden stairways that connect hillside neighborhoods.
The Esmeralda Stairs are a series of three block long stairways that lead up to the west side of Bernal Heights Park. This middle section climbs from Prospect Avenue up to Winfield Street. Posted coordinates are at the bottom of the stairway. The fun part of this section is a long, double-slide with a bump near the take-off. The slide launch point is from the upper plaza and twenty-seven of the steps are needed to climb the hill next to the slide.
At the bottom of the stairs, there's a short half-block street connector to the lower Esmeralda Stairway section.
At the top of the stairs, (N37 44.607 W122 25.080) one can rest at a bench and picnic table under a shaded trellis. Heading up the hill there's a short block-long street section of Esmeralda to the upper Esmeralda Stairway the upper stairway section that climbs up into Bernal Heights Park. This street section of Esmeralda offers parking for access to all three stairway sections.
