The dome at the Capitol building is very striking.
In the center of the dome is the Seal of the State of Illinois.

In the recent past tourist (that were hardy enough) were able to take a "tour" of the dome, and actually got to go to the very top of the building. As you climbed the stair case, that is when you realized that the dome you see from the ground floor is really a dome inside a dome.
Please go to the web site provided and scroll down to "More Dome Pictures". There you will find pictures of the inner dome and the top of the Capitol.
Due to safety concerns the "over the dome" tours have been stopped.
