This monument is of light grey marble with black engraved lettering. It honors those military troops who defended US military installations at Pearl Harbor and on the island of Oahu during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941. This monument was dedicated by the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association on March 31, 2002. It is located between the scenic overlook observation area and the WW2 Memorial off Ritchie Highway (Hwy 480).
The front side,or face, of this monument has a seal of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association on the top, followed by their dedication text and date of dedication. It reads: "Pearl Harbor Survivors Association/ In Memoriam to those members of the armed forces of the United States who served at Pearl Harbor and other military installations on the island of Oahu during the Japanese attack on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941 to perpetuate the memory of those who died that day and those who answer a 'last muster call' since that 'date of infamy.' This event precipitated the entry of the United States entry into World War II. / May they rest in eternal peace." Below this dedicatory text are the seals of the five branches of the US military at the time: Army, Navy, Army Air Corps, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Then, there is the dedicatory engraving, "Dedicated March 31, 2002." This memorial slab is mounted upon a matching grey marble base in which is engraved "Remember Pearl Harbor / Keep America Alert."
The back side of the memorial stone is inscribed with the names of the military personnel from Maryland who died that day being honored. Their ship to which these heros were stationed are also listed. Furthermore, it is mentioned that the Battleship Maryland was damaged. The back reads: "December 7, 1941/ Marylanders Killed/ Robert Everett Arnott USS Pennsylvania BB-38/ Albert Eugene Haden USS Oklahoma BB-37/ Clyde Jackson Rawson USS Arizona BB-39/ Jack Martin Restivo USS Arizona BB-39/ Victor Charles Tambolleo USS Arizona BB-39/ Damaged USS Maryland BB-46".
