The lake is a popular recreational site, the foreshore of the lake is parkland, and swimming, fishing, wind-surfing and non-motorised boating are possible activities on the lake. A bicycle path surrounds the lake.
Prior to the lake being formed, the tuggeranong river ran through the area, and at times it flooded immensly when heavy rain fell in the adjacent hills.
