Thayne is typical of most communities in the Starr Valley of western Wyoming: elevation over 5000 feet, polulation under 500 people. Starr Valley, as a whole, is primarily agricultural. But the scenery is outstanding. The valley is surrounded by magnificent timbered mountain slopes.
Thayne exhibits more of an urban environment than most other communities its size in Starr Valley. There are a number of commercial establishments serving the locals and the travelers passing through on the scenic route from the National Parks to southwest Idaho and northeast Utah. These are somewhat clustered and give the community more of a "town" feel.
