The Aldo Leopold Trail was dedicated on April 21, 1998. It was named for an Albuquerque resident. The sign at the trailhead states that he was "The father of modern environmental preservation." The trailhead is accessible via the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park grounds which has a visitors center.
The trail winds through the bosque area of the Rio Grande River which is a nature preserve. You will see a great deal of wildlife and the vast expanse of cottonwood trees that make up the bosque.
Trail allowances or restrictions: Motorized vehicles prohibited. Bicycles and pets on leashes are allowed.
