Since
the 4th July, 2008, residents and visitors
admire the
venerable old town of Erfurt in a scale model.
The bronze replica provides a comprehensive overview of the many
half-timbered houses, churches, streets and alleys of the city center.
Especially blind and visually impaired visitors is the 200-pound bronze
plate a welcomed guide.
The artist Egbert Broerken created the impressive plastic and labeled
the streets and buildings with Braille. With the help of over
3.000 photos, aerial
images and cadastral maps created by the sculptor, he finally
created
the impressive bronze sculpture on a scale of 1:780.
As the map is a gift of the Rotary
Club Erfurt-Krämerbrücke to the city
of Erfurt, the map's a great success for enthusiastic residents
and visitors alike.
