Baroque Church of St. Adalbert (Kostel Sv. Vojtecha), another nice piece of sacral Baroque architecture and as majority of Baroque structures in Litomerice also work of architects from Broggio family, is one of seven Catholic churches in the town.
A legend from the time of Charles IV says that St. Adalbert (Sv. Vojtech) baptised several people of Litomerice at the church's site. That would make the church obe of the oldest in Litomerice. The original Romanesque church was most probably destroyed by fire and an early Gothic church was built in its place. Following a decision by the municipal council, architect Guilio Broggio added a separate wooden bell tower in the 17th century. After the death of his father, Octavio Broggio built a Baroque church there and also walled Baroque bell tower was erected here instead the wooden one. During the communist regime, the interior of the church served as a depository for valuable documents from the Orague Archiepiscopate Library. When the Schoo of Theology moved there, the church was largely looted. Later, both School and Library moved back to Prague, and the church is now used for sacral puroposes again by Litomerice parish.
