Beautiful, thanks to facade with sgraffiti unmistakable burgher house "At the Black Eagle" ("U Cerného orla"), is one of the most important monuments of the Renaissance architecture in town Litomerice.
House nowadays often calle "Salva Guardia" was built by architect of Italian origin Ambrosio Balli before 1564 for the Houska family. Its main purpose was to proctect the Royal delegations and the sovergein. The sign "Salva Guardia" above the entrance incicated that the house was under the sovereign's protection. After extensive renovation, the post opened its first local branch there on May 1st, 1828, and the interior was rebuilt in palace style in 1832-1834. A typical Renaissance sgraffiti on the facade were discovered only in 1957-1958 and later restored. Today, the house serves as a hotel, restaurant and exhibition hall.
