From the National Register of Historic Places Registration Form:

"...dating to the late 19th century is David's Evangelical Lutheran Church (now Peace Lutheran Church) at 28 Elm Street. Built in 1881, it anchors the historic district at the west end. This is the only non-residential building in the historic district. Designed in a side steeple plan, the church's tall spire and broad gable with repetitive use of lancet-arched openings, along with the variety of color and projecting surfaces is typical of Victorian Gothic ecclesiastical architecture. It is basically rectangular in plan measuring 42.5 x 69 feet with an intersecting gable roof of absestos shingles. The walls are constructed of locally-made red brick and the foundation and trim are Ohio blue sandstone. The north and south walls incorporate true structural perpendicular buttresses to accommodate the unexposed scissors trusses of the building. Four large arched stained glass windows with arched tracery are located on each side and open into the nave of the church. On both the north and south walls contrasting black brick courses in a double row trace the window openings to further accentuate the lancet arches. The church was designed by C.H. Griese, of Cleveland, Ohio, who also designed the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland (1873). There is an Educational Unit addition to the rear (west) of the building built in 1938-9 designed by Ralph Orr of Columbus, Ohio. The addition complements the original building in size, color scale and materials."

The following is a brief history of the church from the Peace Lutheran Church website:

In 1984, some major doctrinal issues concerning the belief in the inerrancy and infallibility of the Scriptures, caused eleven people to meet and consider the formation of a new Lutheran congregation in the Canal Winchester area that believed the Bible in its entirety, is the word of God.

The first worship service of Peace Lutheran Church was held on January 6, 1985 at the Bloom Elementary School, Lithopolis, Ohio. Seventy-six people were in attendance on that first Sunday with Pastor Francis Smith leading the service.

The congregation was formed in March 1985. In April of that year, Pastor Frederick Klopfer was extended a call as the first pastor. He served until 1992 Peace Lutheran Church.

The present church building served the congregation of David Lutheran Church until 1975 when it was purchased by a Baptist congregation. They, in turn, out grew the facility and sold it to the members of Peace Lutheran Church in 1985. The building, erected in 1881, is listed on the National Historic Register.
