* * *

AS MANDATED BY REPUBLIC ACT 8491, THE FLAG AND HERALDIC
CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES, THE PHILIPPINE FLAG SHALL BE
PERMANENTLY HOISTED ON THIS SITE 24/7 THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND SHALL
BE ILLUMINATED AT NIGHT.

This flag pole, over nintey feet tall, overlooks the monument, and grave, of revolutionary hero Dr. Jose Rizal whose execution here at the hands of the occupying Spanish forces became the flash point for the armed revolution resulting in the defeat of the Spanish, only to be replaced by the occupying forces of the United States for the next fifty years. Freedom came at last, after bitter and valiant war with Japan, in 1946, when the peaceful transfer of political rule was returned to the people of the Philippines.

These are the members of the First Congress, with the representatives listed by province.
