Okresni /nyni Mestska/ knihovna, ktera sidli v plaskem zamku, navazala ve svych zacatcich na obecni knihovnu. Ta v malych rozmerech existovala jiz pred druhou svetovou valkou a byla umistena na radnici v dnesni male zasedacce. Zde se zaklada detske oddeleni, knizni fond roste a plaska knihovna s pusobnosti na cely okres Plzen-sever se postupne zacina radit mezi velmi dobre knihovny v Zapadoceskem kraji.
Vyznamnym meznikem pro okresni knihovnu byl rok 1984. Tehdy ctenari poprve prichazeli do nove upravenych prostor 1. patra zamku, kde sidli knihovna dosud.
