This small plaque is historic all by itself since it was installed on May 12, 1886 - the fiftieth anniversary of the Congregational Church.
Located in Davidson Park, it provides directions to find the location of the first log cabin in Elgin, Illinois. With an arrow etched in the boulder, the plaque reads:
One hundred feet from this spot stood
JAMES T. GIFFORD'S
log house, the first home in Elgin built in the Spring of 1835, where was organized the First Congregational Church May 12, 1836, of the following members.
