Located in the North Georgia Mountains the city of Dahlonega, Ga was home to the first major gold rush in the US. Dahlonega is located in Lumpkin County and is the county seat. The city was established in 1833 (illegally since the treaty for the land had not been signed)even though the gold rush began in 1828 when the land was still owned by the Cherokee nation. The city also had its own mint and is host to Gold Rush days every year.
